Erdogan in Washington Despite Bi-Partisan Opposition
U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Turkish President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan to the White House on Wednesday despite sharp bi-partisan protests against the visit. During their meeting, the two leaders reportedly discussed Turkey’s purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems and other aspects of what has become a highly problematic bi-lateral relationship between the two long-standing allies.

Here is the video of the press conference the two leaders held after their private meeting

In related news, Lt. Gen. Eric Fick, the senior Pentagon official in charge of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program testified before a Congressional committee on Wednesday that alternative suppliers have been found for all but a handful of parts being produced for the aircraft.

“We began just over a year ago, very quietly but deliberately, taking actions to find alternate sources for all of those parts,” said Lt. Gen. Fick, adding, “We are not quite there yet, so we have, on the air frame side, 11 components we have to mitigate to be at full-rate production ... and on the engines, there’s one: integrated bladed rotors, IBR’s.”
